The Old Town Clock .... constructed as a garrison clock on the orders of Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent. The clock began keeping time on October 20, 1803. And was telling the correct time when Joe and I walked past.

Guard on Duty
inside the Citadel, lots of displays from the conflicts of the 1800's century to the War of 1812, through the age of Queen Victoria and to the First and Second World Wars.
we were on a guided tour, heading down under the buildings to the"ditch"
an extra outside wall around the fort
the wall is about 6 feet thick and 27 ft high ... after this we went to the Musketry Gallery, which is a dark spooky tunnel that was built to allow soldiers to fire into the ditch while under cover.
this was used to raise the cannons and heavy artillery up the wall to firing platforms

the Signal Post, the tall masts were used for sending coded signals the citizens of Halifax and to the
other forts that protected the harbour.
Barracks, in this room 11 soldiers slept, in the earlier days, the wives and children would share the same room .. husband and wife on a single bed and children slept under the bed
the soldiers were only given one uniform ...to discourage them from deserting the army, also bars on all the windows too, and they were lock in at night.
these two, were getting ready to fire the Noon Gun
there was a school house in the fort and the children of the soldiers had to attend school, to learn to read and write .. some of the soldiers went to school too, if they wanted to get higher up in Rank.
The Noon Gun ..... noon in Halifax is announced by the firing of the Noon Gun. a tradition that has continued, every day except Christmas day at least since 1856 ... for the noon gun, they now use one pound of gun powder ... when they use to use 2 lbs it would set off alarms in the city.
we stopped at the Tailor Shop, were I was out fitted for my new uniform !!!
then it is off the the YMCA, we were told we could get a free shower, and boy o boy we really appreciated it ....
we thought about taking a tour of Alexander Keith's Brewery, but out time was running short, so maybe next time ...
we are planning on heading out tomorrow for an anchorage about 6 hours away, then the next day into Lunenburg ... tonight we will walk the boardwalk one more time and say farewell to Halifax, Nova Scotia
