Things we have learnt OooKay ... there is alway things to learn.... We leant that in the locks ... if at all possible tie up on the Starboard side, to avoid scraping and hitting the radar unit which is at the stern ... and the furling drum, which is strapped to the mast at the bow on the port side. Lesson #2 ... so far ... Don't tie off one end of the line to the cleat when raising or lowering in the locks ... hold both ends in one hand or two and loop it around the pipes along the lock wall. I am not proud of this ... but ... we have kept our fenders on the boat since lock #45 Severn Lock. So far as of July 2/12, we have only met two other sailboats, one was doing the Loop, the other we where not able to communicate with ... sorry to say At Chief Island, we where the only sailboat, ... 400 motor boats and I am not kidding, when I say that. We LOVE our chart plotter ... you really need need one here .. there is no way to follow the narrow passageways only by paper charts. THANKS to Brian and Elaine Mundle GYC Members... for lending the paper charts ... Joe has marked off a swing bridge that is not on charts ... also you have to blow your air horn 3 times for them to open the bridge. Our personal reading is the ports book, THANKS Cam and Karen Robinson, GYC members. I can't believe I have never been to Fenelon Falls, everyone come by car, it is so beautiful. To be continued ......
